Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 30, 2025
Last Updated: April 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how information is collected, used, and protected in relation to the Audio Tags Editor macOS desktop application and its website.
1. Application: Audio Tags Editor
The Audio Tags Editor is a desktop application that runs entirely on your local macOS system. It is designed to respect your privacy:
- Offline Use: The app does not require an internet connection for core functionality. An internet connection is only used when you explicitly request Shazam-based tag recognition (see Section 1.1 below).
- No Data Collection: The app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, except as described in Section 1.1 when you choose to use Shazam recognition.
- No User Accounts: You are not required to create an account or provide any personal information to use the app.
- Local File Access: All audio file modifications happen only on your device. No audio file content is ever uploaded externally, except for the audio fingerprint sent to Shazam upon your explicit request (see Section 1.1).
1.1 Shazam Integration
Audio Tags Editor offers an optional feature that uses Shazam to automatically identify songs and fill in audio tags. This feature is only activated by explicit user action and is never used automatically in the background.
When you use this feature:
- Audio fingerprint transmission: A unique audio fingerprint derived from your audio file is sent to Apple/Shazam servers to identify the song. The full audio file is not uploaded.
- Device identifier: By default, requests are associated with a random, device-generated identifier that is not linked to your Apple Account.
- IP address: Your IP address is collected by Shazam to help detect fraud or misuse of the service.
- Data sharing: Shazam may share de-identified and aggregate information — such as the songs identified and approximate location — with partners including music labels and artists.
Audio Tags Editor has no control over the data practices of Shazam or Apple. For full details, please refer to Shazam's and Apple's privacy documentation:
